The Williston Little League All-Stars were recognized by legislators and gave T-shirts to Gov. Jim Douglas during ceremonies held last week in Montpelier.

The team, which won the state championship and advanced to the regional tournament last summer, traveled to the Statehouse on Friday to hear a resolution read honoring their achievement. The resolution was sponsored by Reps. Terry Macaig and Jim McCullough of Williston.

The resolution said each of the players “deserves special commendation for his dedication, determination and unbelievable performance on the baseball diamond …” It also noted that the team erased a seven-run deficit to win the championship game in Brattleboro and received a police escort when it returned to Williston.

Macaig said he planned to honor the team if he was elected in November. It took a while, he said, to coordinate schedules and organize the event. The ceremony was also attended by team coaches and the players’ relatives.

Players then presented T-shirts emblazoned with the team’s name to Douglas and Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie.
