Just a week from the conclusion of the regular season, the Champlain Valley Union High boys hockey team will honor its seven seniors at 6 p.m. on Saturday when they take to the Cairns 1 Arena ice against Colchester High.

The Lakers, whom the Redhawks nipped 3-2 a week ago Monday at Leddy Arena in Burlington, took a 9-7 record into Wednesday’s action. CVU took on Bellows Free Academy of St. Albans on Wednesday at Cairns.

Last week had its ups and downs for CVU, which bowed to a hot Burlington High team 5-3 on Wednesday before unleashing a 9-1 triumph over Rice Memorial High on Saturday to lift the season mark to 9-4-3.

The victory over the Redhawks was Burlington’s sixth straight as it improved to 9-7. CVU out-shot the Seahorses 31-25 and got a pair of goals from Robbie Dobrowski, plus a singleton from Nate LaCroix. But BHS net minder Justin Delibec came up with 28 stops to frustrate Redhawk scoring opportunities.

Dobrowski, with a hot stick in recent games, tallied another goal and assisted on two more in the victory over Rice. Brady DeHayes, also a consistent net finder in recent weeks, potted a pair of scores while LaCroix got his second in two outings.

Also adding CVU scores were Wes O’Brien, Owen Smith and Kyle Logan, while senior Tim Reichert celebrated his return to the ice from a near season-long ankle injury with a tally.

Goalies Mark Albertson and Miles Grunvald shared the backstop chores, combining for 11 saves.
