With a tough Burr and Burton aggregation on their home ice Wednesday, the Champlain Valley Union High boys hockey skaters were hoping to kick up their winning streak to six going into Saturday’s Leddy Arena tilt (8:20 p.m.) against Colchester High.
Coach Doug Hopper and his 6-2 Hawks return to Cairns Arena Wednesday for a CSB Cup contest against South Burlington High. The Rebels nipped CVU in overtime, 4-3, in the season’s opener.
Last Saturday’s scheduled contest against Spaulding High in Barre was postponed to Feb. 8 due to wintry road conditions.
CVU’s latest triumph, on Dec. 30, was a corker as the Division 1 title holding Redhawks knocked last year’s championship game rival, 8-1 Essex High (8-1), from the ranks of the undefeated with a 3-1 triumph at the Essex Arena.
J.P. Benoit, Sam Parent and Robbie Dobrowski (12 goals for the season) found the net while Kyle Logan chalked up three assists with some alert stick play.
CVU net minder Mark Albertson was a Red and White Doctor No, as the senior came up with 35 stops. CVU unloaded some 44 shots on Hornets goalie Evan Russell.
Hopper was happy with the output from his third line of Parent, Jamie Thayer and John Milbank.
