Youth Programs

Young Rembrandts Drawing – Winter Session

The Young Rembrandt drawing classes are educational programs perfect for the imaginative child. Add some creativity to your child’s winter schedule. Lessons will focus on developing drawing skills and artistic concepts such as color theory, perspective and lighting. Students at Allen Brook School will focus on developing basic drawing skills and concepts. Students at Williston Central School will focus on more advanced artistic concepts, color theory and drawing techniques. Instructors: Young Rembrandt Staff. Tuesdays, Dec. 6- Jan. 17, grades K-2, 1:45-3 p.m. at Allen Brook. Grades 3-6, 2 -3:15 p.m. at WCS. $78 per child. 

Youth/Teen Open Gym

The Rec Dept. will be offering an open gym time on Friday nights from 6 -8 p.m., for youth and teens grades 3 to 12 at the Williston Central School new gym. The open gym will be available December through March when school is in session and there are no school functions. A schedule is available on the Rec website. 

Family Program

Snowmobile Safety Course

This course provides the opportunity to earn the certification necessary to legally operate on Vermont’s statewide snowmobile trails system. Participants must be present for all classes to be eligible for certification. Vermont law requires that all operators born after July 1, 1983 who are 12 years of age or older must take and pass a state-approved snowmobile safety course. Instructors: Vermont State Police. Ages 12+, Tues., Weds. and Thurs., Dec. 6-8, 6-8 p.m. $15 per person.

Adult Programs

Holiday gIft workshop

Come spend two Saturday mornings creating handmade gifts to celebrate the holiday season. Students will create gifts to give family members or friends and create festive decorations for your home.Students will bring the gifts home wrapped on the last day, so there’s no peeking. Instructors: MC Baker and Cheryl Lalancette. Ages: 6-14, Saturdays, Dec. 3 and Dec. 10. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. $100.

Boxwood tree workshop

Boxwood trees are a special holiday favorite. Whether plain or traditionally decorated, they make a delightful centerpiece or gift. These miniature trees last for more than a month to be enjoyed throughout the holiday season. Create this masterpiece yourself with easy instruction in one fun session. No experience necessary. Donna Covais, Registered Horticultural Therapist (HTR) and Master Gardener, will guide you every step of the way. Blind since age 40, Donna will motivate you to keep your thumbs green. Ages 18+, Thursday, Dec. 8, 6-8 p.m. $62.

Strong First — Strength Training

Strong First is a circuit-style strength training class for people of all fitness levels to lose weight, build muscle, perform better or feel healthier. Strong First combines free-weights, bodyweight, core exercises and calisthenics to form a fun and challenging work out. Register for a once or twice a week program. Program is held at Perks Fitness on Williston Road in South Burlington. Instructor: Jen Weiss, CPT. Ages 18+, Tuesdays, Dec. 13- Jan. 17, 5:30-6:30 p.m. $84.

Gentle Yoga

Learn how to mindfully think, move and breathe through this slower paced, well-supported program. Your first class is free to try, pre-registration is required. Punch cards can be purchased at the program on your first night. Instructor: Jill Lang. Ages 18+, Tuesdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. $62 for an eight-visit punch card, purchased at the first class you attend.

50+ Strength Training

Class begins with a light warm up and proceeds into basic and functional strength training exercises that help improve muscle tone, balance and coordination. Socialization, weight loss, increasing daily energy, as well as functional and core strength are benefits of this engaging, fun class. Held at Williston Federated Church. Instructor: Toni Kunker. Ages 50+, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:15-11:15 a.m. Pricing and registration available at first class. First class is free.

Zumba Gold

Zumba Gold is not ‘Zumba Old.’ It is a less intense class with dance routines designed for beginners, those with health concerns/limitations and older adults using modified movements. The program improves balance, flexibility and cardiovascular strength, as well as strengthens ‘brain muscles’ while learning the dance steps. Held at Williston Federated Church. Instructor: Toni Kunker. Ages 45+, Tuesday and Thursday, 9:15-10:15 a.m. Pricing and registration available at first class. First class is free.
