Strong First Strength Training

Strong First is a circuit-style strength training class for people of all fitness levels. Whether you’d like to lose weight, build muscle, perform better or feel healthier, strength training is the base that will get you there. Strong First combines free-weights, bodyweight, core exercises and calisthenics. Register for a once or twice-a-week program, held at Perks Fitness. Instructor: Jen Weiss, CPT. Ages 18+, Tuesdays, Nov. 1-Dec. 6, 5:30-6:30 p.m., $84 or Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 8-Dec. 20, (no class 11/24), 5:30-6:30 p.m., $132.

Knitting for Adults

Learn to knit or improve your knitting skills while enjoying the fun of knitting with a group. This class will offer the basics for first-time knitters, as well as provide early and intermediate knitters with specific how-tos and help with projects. Materials are available for purchase at the first class or you may bring your own. Program held at The Knitting Circle, Essex Jct. Instructor: Christine Heavner. Ages 18+, Tuesdays, Nov. 1-Dec. 13, 7-8:30 p.m. $72.

Dog Training: Basic Training and Social Skills

The basic course is six weeks and covers all you need to know to understand and have a well-behaved dog. Great for new puppies, newly adopted rescue dogs, or any humans and dogs who want help with the basics. The course covers basic obedience so that you can walk your dog without going for a drag, get your dog to sit politely on greetings and not jump all over your friends. Ages: Adults 18+, dogs 8 weeks+. Mondays, Nov. 7-Dec. 19, 6:15-7:15 p.m., $127 per dog. Instructors: Goldstar Dog Training.

Dog Training: Beyond Basics Course

This five-week course continues to build a foundation of manners, training, and social skills that were started in the basic course. You and your dog will learn more advanced levels. Working on making responses to commands consistent and reliable. You will continue to hone your handling skills: timing, consistency, reading your dog, understanding the training techniques and how to apply them. Instructors: Goldstar Dog Training. Dogs must have taken Basic Course. Adults must be 18+. Mondays, Nov. 7-Dec. 12, 7:30-8:30 p.m. $112 per dog.

Youth Taekwondo

Has your child wanted to try out Taekwondo, but you didn’t want to commit to the pricing and all the equipment? If so, this is a great opportunity. The Rec Dept. is teaming up with Kojo Academy to offer this four-week introductory program. Your child will learn basic practical self-defense and how to deal with bullying situations. This program is for new students only and held at Kojo Academy. Ages 7-15, Saturdays, Oct. 29-Nov. 19, 9-10 a.m. $44.

Afterschool Bowling Program

Bus transportation is provided each week from Allen Brook and Williston Central schools to Spare Time Bowling in Colchester. Children must ride the bus with Spare Time representatives. Children will have unlimited bowling and shoes each week. There will be a pizza party on the final week. Parents are responsible for pick up between 5-5:15 p.m. Supervision by Spare Time staff. Grades K-6, Tuesdays, Nov. 1-Dec. 13, Dismissal: 5:15 p.m. $96.

Parisi Afterschool Program

Does your child love to be active? If so, they will enjoy this hour and a half of Parisi performance training each week. It combines speed, agility, relative body strength, enhanced coordination and confidence-building skills along with fun games and activities. The program will be held at WCS. Instructors: Parisi Staff. Grades 3-8, Tuesdays, Nov. 1-Dec. 13, 2-3:30 p.m. $102.

Open Studio Crafting

The sessions are “open studio” style, with piles of appealing crafting materials that the children can create with. There will be sewing, weaving, wire sculpture, drawing, paper crafts, needle felting, beading/jewelry making, construction with hot glue, and much more. The atmosphere is ripe for either creative collaboration or individual pursuits. Instructor: Christine Billis. Grades 3-8. Mondays, Nov. 7-Dec. 19, 3-4:30 p.m. $102.

Bucket Drumming

Come have a blast and learn bucket drumming! Buckets and sticks available to borrow. A casual performance will be held at the end of the last session. Instructor: Danielle Trasciatti-Holmberg, WCS Music Teacher. Grades 3-4, Mondays, Nov. 7-Dec. 19, 3-4:15 p.m., $52.
