Leon Joseph Lareau
Leon Joseph Lareau, 80, of Williston passed away May 25. He was born on April 19, 1936, to the late Leon and Madeleine (Lapoint) Lareau, in Glens Falls, N.Y.
He studied at St. Mary’s Academy, Siena College, and Northeastern University. He married Marie Lanoue on Aug. 30, 1958.
Leon taught school in Argyle, N.Y., and then worked on the Apollo Project at MIT, in Boston. He then began a long career as a statistician for IBM, working first in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and then Essex Jct., Vt. He retired in 1992.
Leon was an avid reader. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, playing his banjo and harmonica, playing GO, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed staying in touch with his brother and sister and other family members through Skype.
Leon is survived by his wife, Marie; his brother, Roger and his wife, Julie; his sister Darla and her husband, Karl; his children, Peter and his wife, Heather, John and his wife Annmarie, and Anne Marie and her finance, Willie. He is also survived by grandchildren, Bobby, Sara, Eric, Matthew, Ethan and Andrea; and step-grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryan and Rachel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by family and close friends at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 11 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Williston. A reception will follow in the church hall. Arrangements are under the care of the LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski. The Lareau family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the team of doctors and nurses at UVM Medical Center McClure 6 for the care they provided to Leon.
