A new Williston law office is bringing big city experience to help small Vermont businesses achieve their dreams.

After 15 years practicing in Boston and Washington, D.C., lawyer Dave Sterrett opened Sterrett Law in Williston in March.

He focuses on helping small businesses with everything from securing funding for startup costs to bringing their products to the international stage.

“I really like helping people achieve their dreams,” he said. “When you’re working with business people, you’re helping them find creative solutions to their problems, and when you help solve a problem for them, it’s really rewarding.”

Working closely with business owners can be a personal process, he said.

“You’re part therapist, part lawyer,” he said. “You create real personal relationships with your clients. You really become friends, and I really enjoy that.”

Sterrett said his business tagline — “Boston experience at Vermont prices” — sets him apart from his competition.

“I practiced at a large law firm in Boston doing really high-level work,” he said. “I’m now able to offer it at affordable Vermont rates.”

Mark Browning, co-owner of Stone and Browning Property Management, said Sterrett has helped his company with the legal aspects of real estate investment. Sterrett’s broad knowledge base means he brings more to the table, Browning said, but the affordable price tag was Sterrett’s biggest asset for the company.

“He’s super knowledgeable, he’s extremely affordable and he’s an all-around awesome guy,” Browning said. “What you get for what you pay, it’s incredible.”

Sterrett first came to Vermont as a Middlebury College student in the ‘90s.

“I fell in love with Vermont then, and I spent the next 15 years between Boston and Washington, D.C. working as a corporate lawyer.”

He moved back to Vermont for its high quality of life, he said, and chose Williston for its central location to clients in Chittenden and Washington counties.

“It has the best of everything,” he said. “It’s really well situated and super convenient for running a business.”

Sterrett said his services run the gamut from trademark law, helping clients purchase other businesses or sell their own, leveraging financing to expand commercial operations and more.

“I focus on helping businesses from startup to ultimate sale, through all steps of the process,” he said. “I look forward to getting to know more of the Williston community and helping to serve them.”
