Congratulations, Summer Readers

The library has set a new reading record this year. A total of 367 children and teens logged a grand total of more than 480,000 minutes. If you missed the end of summer celebration, you may stop by the library youth area to pick up your reading log and gift certificate from Spare Time Colchester.

Read and Win a Day at the Fair 2016

Children in grades K-8 who have read three books this summer may stop by the library to pick up a ribbon for free admission to the Champlain Valley Fair on Kids Day, Monday, Aug. 29. Ribbons are also good for a free ice cream cone at the Dairy Bar and a ride on the Midway. Coupons will be available on Kids Day at the Administration Building at the Fairgrounds. Lego Day

Thursday, Aug.18, 1-3 p.m. Make your own LEGO creations using the library’s LEGO collection. All ages. Children ages 8 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Marble Painting

Tuesday, Aug. 23, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Go crazy with color. Roll marbles in paint and create your own designs. Drop-in activity. All ages.

Music for Preschoolers

Mondays, 11 a.m. with Peter Alsen and Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. with Marcie Hernandez. Up to age 5 with a caregiver. No pre-registration.

Disc Golf Sets

Thanks to a partnership with the Williston Central School, the library now has disc golf sets available for loan. The sets are available for three-day loan so that you may visit Williston’s disc golf course near the Williston Central School playing fields or another course elsewhere. The library has 10 sets available for loan. You may check out four sets per library card.

Venture Vermont Outdoor Challenge

All summer. Download a score sheet; record outdoor activities through Oct. 15 and receive your VIP gold coin-good for entry into Vermont State Parks for the rest of 2016, and for all of 2017. Details at

Dottie the Bookmobile

Dottie will continue to run through Sept.1. If you miss Dottie’s last visit, remember that you can return bookmobile books to the Dorothy Alling Memorial Library or to the school libraries at Allen Brook and Williston Central schools. Check the library website for complete schedule.

Brown Bag Book Club

Movie: ‘The Danish Girl’

Adult Coloring

Saturday, Aug. 27, 11-12:30 p.m. Switch off the phone, computer and TV. Come try the new coloring book trend that is helping adults benefit from the quiet Zen that a coloring session can bring. Books and color pencils are provided.
