After responding to a season-opening five-game losing streak, the Champlain Valley Union High boys basketball team will resume its current four-game winning string Friday night with a trip to Barre and Spaulding High.
Next home game is Tuesday, when the Redhawks play host to North Country Union (6:30 p.m.), which sported a 7-2 record at the beginning of this week.
CVU’s latest win meant overcoming a series of challenges from home standing Colchester High last Friday night before the Red and White could escape with a 45-41 triumph and 4-5 season mark.
Early in the game, CVU trailed 18-7 before Rayne Supple and Walker Storey (6 points each) paced a 17-2 rally that gained a 24-20 intermission advantage for coach Michael Osborne’s crew.
The two quintets then began the final reel in a 33-33 deadlock before CVU outpointed the Lakers 12-8 for the win.
Storey, Chris Reiss and Josh Bliss led a balanced attack with nine points each for the victors. Justin Evans of Colchester was the lone double figure scorer with 11 points.
