Grant to help control erosion at Lake Iroquois

Observer staff report
A grant will help fund work to redesign the beach and parking lot at Lake Iroquois in an effort to control erosion and improve water quality at the lake.
The grant, received in the fall from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, totals $49,661.
“Despite attempts over the years to keep the gravel road and parking area graded in such a way as to keep runoff from going directly into the lake, runoff continues to erode the beach and add high levels of phosphorous to Lake Iroquois,” a press release states. “This effort is a step toward making the beach a viable and enjoyable recreational spot at a reasonable cost for years to come.”
Public Works Director Bruce Hoar said the town hopes to seek bids for the project in the near future, and have work completed before the beach opens for the summer.
