Then on Monday, they won the  Coaches vs. Cancer match against Vermont Commons 3-0 (25-11. 25-17 and 25-13). Shannon Loiseau led the team with six service aces. Lauren Johnson, Natalie Senior and Shannon Loiseau had three kills each and Natalie Senior had two blocks, Coach Gino Johnson reported.

The two wins come on the coattails of the season opener at Mount Mansfield, where the girls won 3-0 (25-12, 25-18 and 25-10). In that match, Lauren Johnson had 23 assists and Shannon Loiseau had 4 service aces and 7 kills. Tori Bergstein also had 7 kills. Natalie Senior led the team with 6 blocks.

Coach Gino Johnson said the girls were off to an amazing start and the team was progressing better than expected.

“The team is making solid progress in learning our system,” said Johnson. “With eight sophomores on varsity, we have a number of players that are learning entirely new positions as well as getting used to playing next to each other on the court,” said Johnson.

Friday the girls will again face South Burlington in a home match at 4:30 p.m.
