Girls skiers finish fourth in state alpine races3/5/09

The Champlain Valley Union High boys alpine ski team will go for the state’s gold on Thursday at Pico Mountain near Rutland, hoping to improve on the girls’ fourth place finish in their state meet on Monday at Stowe Mountain Resort.

Leading the boys will be all-Northern Vermont Athletic Council team members Sam Darling, Dan Caffry, Cody Putre and Warren Colomb.

Cassie Smith, also a NVAC team member, led the girls Monday with an 11th in giant slalom and a 14th in the two-run giant slalom.

Rutland High won the overall team competition with 42 points. The Redhawks had 187 points for their fourth place. Fourteen teams competed in the races.
