The University of Vermont Extension Master Gardener Helpline is staffed by certified master gardeners and open for questions four days a week.
Calls and walk-ins are accepted between 9 a.m. and noon, Monday through Thursday. Call 656-5421 or stop by 201 Jeffords Hall on the UVM campus. Questions also may be submitted through an online form at go.uvm.edu/ask-a-master-gardener.
Master gardeners staffing the helpline have completed an intensive 13-week horticultural course and internship to earn their certification. They are trained to answer questions about soil preparation, gardening, annuals and perennials, lawn care, trees, shrubs, composting, insect pests, plant diseases and other home horticultural topics.
Gardeners can also send in samples of insects and diseased plants for identification and soil for soil testing. For instructions, go to uvm.edu/mastergardener.
