She helped lead the Champlain Valley Union High basketball Redhawks to two Vermont Division 1 crowns. Now, in her freshman season at American University in Washington, D.C., Emily Kinneston is about to test the women’s version of March Madness.

American, seeded 14th after a 24-8 regular season, will meet third-seeded Iowa in a regional opening round game in Iowa City Friday at 2:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN-2.

After a bumpy early season due to illness and injury, Kinneston has logged serious playing time including starting assignments in recent games as American closed the pre-NCAAs season on an 11-game win streak, which included the Patriot League title.

At CVU, Kinneston was two-time winner of Vermont’s Miss Basketball award and the Gatorade Female High School Player of the Year.

Her longtime Rice Memorial High foe and teammate on the victorious Vermont Twin State senior all-star team last summer, Hailee Barron, is also in the NCAAs playing for James Madison University which takes on Ohio State Saturday afternoon at 1:30, also on ESPN-2.
