Football honors for several CVU Redhawks

Led by senior veterans Alec Distler and Harvey Ottinger, a dozen members of the 2012 Champlain Valley Union High football team have received postseason recognition.

Distler and Ottinger were named to the Burlington Free Press All-State team, the 6-foot-4-inch, 260-pound Distler to the offensive line and Ottinger, 6 feet tall and 210 pounds, as a linebacker.

The two were also named to the coaches’ all-state defensive team along with senior end Rex McCoy and junior outside linebacker Jason Cora. McCoy is also a Free Press All-State honorable mention.

Outside linebacker Kyle Williams and back Alex Bulla are coaches’ honorable mentions.Bulla, a junior, made the coaches’ offensive all-star team as a punter along with junior quarterback Steele DuBrul, running back Pat Shea and receiver Ryan Beaudry, a second team Free Press selection. DuBrul and Shea are Free Press honorable mentions.

Coaches named Ottinger to the second team offensive line. Honorable mentions went to receiver Davis Mikell, lineman Tim Halvorson and kicker Max Whitcomb.
