• On Aug. 23, fire crews responded to a one-car accident on Gov. Chittenden Road at 12:55 p.m. A 1998 Volkswagen Rabbit struck a telephone poll head on. The driver suffered a head injury and was transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington by the University of Vermont Rescue Service. Four firefighters and Engine 3 responded to the scene.
• At the intersection of Van Sicklen and South Brownell roads, fire crews responded to a two-car accident on Aug. 24 at 6:45 p.m. A Ford Taurus hit a Volvo S40 head on, sending the Volvo into a ditch. The vehicles’ occupants were transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care by St. Michael’s College Rescue. Fire crews cleaned up the resulting fluid in the road. Engine 1 and Car 1 responded to the scene along with six firefighters.
• On Aug. 28, fire crews responded to the scene of a two-car accident at the intersection of Route 2 and Munson Way. A 2008 Chevy pickup rear-ended a 2008 Dodge Caravan, with fluids spilling from the Caravan. The operator of the Chevy was transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care by St. Michael’s College Rescue. The operator of the Dodge refused treatment. Hazmat 1 and Engine 3, along with six firefighters, responded to assist with injuries and fluid spill.
Fire crews responded to 65 Dorset Lane after a report that 25 gallons of vegetable oil had spilled onto the roadway. A witness reported seeing the oil spill from the back of a truck after hitting a bump, possibly coming from a fryolater. Crews used Speedy Dry to soak up the oil and removed the contents from the scene. Seven firefighters and Engine 3, Hazmat 1 and Car 2 responded to the scene.
