Residents can lace up their shoes for a charitable walk on just about every weekend this fall. Here are some highlights.

WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S,
Sept. 21

The 2014 Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place at Shelburne Museum. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. A ceremony is set for 10:30 a.m. with the 2-mile walk to follow. So far, 98 teams and 552 walkers have signed up to participate. Visit act.alz.org or call 316-3839 for more information.

WALK TO DEFEAT ALS, Sept. 21

The annual 3-mile Walk to Defeat ALS will take place in Dorset Street Park. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. and the walk kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Live music, food, warm-ups led by the Burlington Boot Campers and more.

GREAT STRIDES, Sept. 21

The Great Strides Walk is a fun, family-oriented event with a healthy 5k walk, children’s activities, food and festivities, raising funds for and awareness of Cystic Fibrosis. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. at Oakledge Park in Burlington and the walk begins at 10:30 a.m.

NAMIWALKS, Sept. 27

The National Alliance on Mental Illness will host a 5K walk and run at Waterfront Park in Burlington. Check-in starts at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:30 a.m.

RUN FOR JUMP, Sept. 27

The family fun event includes a 5K run, 1K run for kids and 1K walk along the Burlington Bike Path, beginning at North Beach at 9 a.m. Registration fee of $20. For information, visit www.jumpvt.org or email Run4JUMP@gmail.com.

VISION WALK, Sept. 28

The Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (VABVI) will host its fourth annual “Vision Walk” Walk-A-Thon fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dorset Park in South Burlington. Register online at www.firstgiving.com/vabvi or by calling 1-800-639-5861, ext. 219. $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Walk followed by a barbeque by donation and music. www.vabvi.org

SJOGREN’S ROCKIN’ 5K FUN TRAIL RUN & WALK, Oct. 4

Raise funds for and awareness of Sjogren’s Syndrome by running, walking, hiking or cheering on the participants at Niquette Bay State Park in Colchester. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the event begins at 9 a.m. http://tinyurl.com/Rockin5K

CHASE AWAY 5K, Oct. 12

Chase Away K9 Cancer with a run along the South Burlington bike path. Friendly, leashed dogs welcome, prizes. Dorset Park, South Burlington. 9 a.m. registration, 10 a.m. start. $20 to preregister, $25 for same-day registration.

BUDDY WALK, Oct. 12

The Champlain Valley Down Syndrome Group will host the 5th Annual Champlain Valley Buddy Walk at Battery Park in Burlington. The event kicks off at noon and one-mile walk through Burlington commences at 1 p.m. Refreshments provided. $10 per participant. http://cvdsg.org/buddy-walk-2014/

CROP WALK, Oct. 12

Burlington’s annual CROP Hunger Walk will begin at the First Congregational Church of Burlington. Registration starts at 1:30 p.m., with an opening ceremony at 1:50 p.m. and the walk at 2 p.m. The route is 2.5 miles through Burlington and includes a tour of the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf.
