Enroll now for next year’s publicly funded pre-K

Chittenden South Supervisory Union offers publicly funded prekindergarten for children between the ages of 3 and 5 who reside in the towns of: Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St. George and Williston.

The program is now enrolling for the 2017-18 school year, and encourages families with children ages 3 to 5 to enroll.

What is publicly funded prekindergarten education?

Publicly funded prekindergarten is defined as: Ten hours per week (for 35 weeks) of developmentally appropriate early learning experiences that is based on Vermont’s Early Learning Standards.

Children who reside in Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St. George and Williston and are between the ages of three and five are eligible.

Prekindergarten education is limited to the academic school year, which runs from Sept. 2017 to June 2018.

What Should CSSU Families Know about the program?

Children must be at least 3 years old on or before Sept. 1 2017 to qualify for prekindergarten funding.

Publicly-funded prekindergarten services can be found in schools and qualified community-based programs (homes and centers).

This link will bring you to a list of qualified pre-k providers in the state. (scroll down the page to List of Pre-qualified Providers)

The state tuition rate paid to community-based private pre-k providers on behalf of children attending prekindergarten during the 2016-17 school year is $3,178.

How do I apply?

If your child is going to attend a qualified prekindergarten program outside of the school (in the community) you will have to enroll both with the program/provider (for your child’s place in the program) and with your school district (to ensure tuition funding for your child is sent to the program).

The registration paperwork to be sent to the school district (CSSU) can be found at this link: 18_final_elp_registration_packet_.pdf

If your child is going to attend a prekindergarten program offered in the school by the school district, contact your local school about the enrollment process.
