CVUs Bedard shoots way into state golf tourney (6/4/09)

The Champlain Valley Union High golf team came close to qualifying for the state tournament next week in Middlebury, and team member Andre Bedard did make the cut.

Playing Tuesday in the North sectional tournament at Rocky Ridge Golf Club in St. George, Bedard fired a 75, just two strokes off the pace of medalist Stevie Mone of Essex High. Bedard placed fifth and earned the final individual qualifier for the states.

The Redhawks as a team finished in a three-way tie for third at 327, but Mount Mansfield Union got the trip to Middlebury. Essex and Burlington were the top two teams.

Other CVU scores were Chris Nigh’s 82, Billy Wilson’s 84, Eric Robinson’s 86 and Jack Tomashot’s 87.
