Saturday marked a turning point for the girls softball team as fans watched them fight for their win of 17 to 12 in seven innings against St. Johnsbury Academy.
Both teams combined for 24 hits, with seven extra base hits on April 30, and the game was a back-and-forth battle right into the sixth inning. That’s when the Redhawks took the lead and held on for the win.
Jamie Monty scored a two-run double, plating Natalie Gagnon and Lila Ottinger, and Josie Sinopoli went a perfect 3-3 at the plate for CVU, and singled in the first and second innings. She doubled in the seventh.
The start of the game saw the Redhawks in an early lead, with Hattie Roberts singling to kick off the offense. Riley Brown scored a groundout, and Ottinger singled, plating Roberts. The Redhawks added more runs when Ottinger scored on a walk by Mary Titus and Sinopoli. St. J responded with seven runs of its own in the second inning, but the Redhawks went up for the duration after the sixth. An RBI double by Jessica Gagne scored more runs.
