The Champlain Valley Union High girls Alpine ski team had to settle for third place March 8 in the Vermont State Meet at Pico Peak near Rutland.

Redhawks’ All-State performers Abby Owens and Emma Putre finished sixth and ninth in the individual rankings for the two-run slalom, but nary a CVU skier was able to crack the top 15 finishers in the giant slalom.

CVU tied with Stowe High for second in the team totals, each with 162 points. Stowe was awarded the runner-up slot based on a tiebreaker.

Mount Mansfield Union High won the event with 64 points as the Cougars’ Ali Chivers captured the slalom and Lucy Harrington, second in slalom, won the giant slalom.
