Show will benefit Williston Food Shelf
By Greg Elias
The Brick Church Music Series kicks off on Friday with a classical music concert benefiting the Williston Community Food Shelf.
Alturas Duo, opens the Brick Church Music Series on Friday evening.
Alturas Duo — viola player Carlos Boltes and guitarist Scott Hill — will perform a blend of classical and South American folk music.
Plenty of tickets are still available, said Williston Town Manager Rick McGuire, one of a quartet of series organizers. Chef’s Corner Cafe Bakery and McClure’s Moving & Storage are sponsoring the first concert.
Proceeds will help ensure the Food Shelf continues to be well-stocked with basic staples, said Deb Beckett, president of the organization’s Board of Directors. The Food Shelf spends an average of $1,170 to purchase food each month to supplement donated items.
The series features monthly concerts covering musical genres from jazz to folk. It culminates with a performance by Vance Gilbert, a musician who has recorded several albums and opened for platinum-selling artist Shawn Colvin.
Each concert benefits a different charitable or nonprofit organization. Beneficiaries range from the Alzheimer’s Association of Vermont to the Williston-Richmond Rotary Club.
Admission for most concerts, which will be held at the historic Brick Church in Williston Village, is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and children ages 6 to 12. Tickets for Alturas Duo and Vance Gilbert are $12.50 for adults, $10 for children and seniors.
Tickets can be purchased at Williston Town Hall or at the door on the date of the concert. Tickets for the entire series are also available. They are $50 for adults, $40 for children and seniors.
