For the Champlain Valley Union High girls soccer team, it is a week off between assaults on those occupying the summit of Division I.
On Friday, the Redhawks will tangle for the second time this season with Burlington High, which comes to the Hinesburg nest for a 4 p.m. match. The highflying Seahorses nipped CVU, 1-0, on Sept. 18 in Burlington.
Coach Brad Parker’s 8-3 Hawks tested mighty 8-2 Essex High for the second time this season and took the contest into overtime before the Hornets, playing at home, got a second goal from star Natalie LeClair for a 2-1 victory.
There were just over two minutes gone on the extra session when LeClair scored.
Essex had led 1-0 from the opening minutes until CVU tied it with 8:07 remaining in the second half. Captain Asia Sienko booted one of the patented corner kicks toward the Essex cage where an alert Kylie DeGroot headed the ball into the net.
“It (the game) could have gone either way,” Parker told reporters.
LeClair had Essex’s lone goal when the Hornets edged the Redhawks 1-0 earlier in the season at Hinesburg.
