The Champlain Valley Union High boys volleyball team finished its season with a runner up spot after a tough championship match against Essex on Saturday.

“With a 10-1 record, we had a tremendous season in 2015,” Coach Jeffrey Boliba wrote in an email to the Observer. “The boys’ handled themselves so well all season long and won and lost with class and dignity.”

The boys team defeated Burlington High in the semi-finals last week.

“We played really well and the boys executed our game plan to perfection,” Boliba wrote.

During Saturday’s championship match, the Redhawks bowed to Essex 0-3.

“Our CVU boys were a little nervous to start the match and never got clicking on all cylinders,” Boliba wrote. “The Essex team played well and hats off to them for playing a great match.”

Several Redhawks led the team during the season in stats—Henry Mohn had the most blocks; Kevin Devine led in kills; Jeffrey Boliba tallied the most setting assists and diving saves; Elias Sturim led in serves made; Spencer Snipes in digs and Kyle Gorman in ace serves.

Two CVU players—Kevin Devine and Jeffrey Boliba—were voted to the All-Vermont team by coaches of other teams.
