Bold start to CVU’s boys basketball season

Paced by two quick starts, the Champlain Valley boys basketball team has opened up the high school season with wins over St. Johnsbury and Rice for a 2-0 start.

In the first game of the year, CVU went on a 14-0 run to close the first quarter in a 62-43 win over the host Hilltoppers.

Colin Monsey led the Redhawks with 17 points and Matt Spear added 15. Walker Storey and Josh Bliss each added eight points.

Antonio Carlisle scored 2 points to pace St. Johnsbury.

In the second game, Jack Scotnicki scored 17 of his 19 points in the first half and the Redhawks earned the 61-52 win over the Green Knights.

Monsey added 18 points for his second double-digit output of the season, while Spear also hit double-digits again with 11 points.

Elliot Nelson led the way for Rice with 20 point and Kam Farris added 15.
