Residents from Benchmark Senior Living, the largest senior living provider in New England, intend to break the world record for longest friendship bracelet ever made.

The initiative began as a program activity for residents to celebrate “The Longest Day” – an event that raises funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Held annually on the summer solstice, the duration of this sunrise-to-sunset event symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.

Residents, associates and families in assisted living, memory care and independent living from all 50+ Benchmark communities came together on the Longest Day to help make a portion of the bracelet, which has now made the record of more than 2,009 feet.

On Aug. 3 the bracelet was officially measured and submitted to The Guinness Book of World Records.

The idea originated from Benchmark’s yearly program a “Journey Through Time and Broadway” Residents were studying the 1930s and came across world records being a popular topic. A few decided they wanted to set a record of their own.
