Champlain Valley Union High coaches provide a preview of their teams and season outlook.

Girls Cross Country

Coaches: Scott Bliss (head), Cari Causey, Justin Newton and Cory Coffey

Key returning veterans:  Seniors Sophia Gorman,  Julie Sulva, Meara Heininger and Morgan Schnell; juniors Jennifer Ireland and Rosalie Lacroix, and sophomores Emma McMahan and Willow Bertrand.

Leading newcomers: Sophomores Chloe Andrae and Geneva Cote; freshmen Emma Strack and Sadie Holmes.

Season prospects:  We return a very veteran team with a number of new runners looking like they could contribute by the end of the season. We should be one of the teams with a chance of winning the state championship in November and should be a solid New England championship-level team.

Season prospects:  We return five of our top seven boys from last year’s state championship team and a number of the new runners have improved dramatically. That should put us in a position to contend for the Vermont state championship again this year and improve our 10th place New England Championship finish.

Entering into their fourth season at CVU, the boys are looking to continue their winning ways and catapult off of last year’s 10-1 season. We have experienced steady growth in the boys program every year and this year we have 23 boys total and are expanding to two teams — varsity and junior varsity.
