Seeded second in the 135-pound weight class, Champlain Valley Union High’s Sherman Wood lived up to the high expectation last weekend in the Vermont State Wrestling Tournament at Essex Junction High School.

Wood, who has won more than 100 individual matches in his career, finished second to top-seeded Josh Kernan of Harwood Union High. Wood was pinned by Kernan in the finale, but only after a four minute and 24 second confrontation.

CVU’s Stephan Fortin was sixth in the 152-pound class after being seeded fifth among 14 entries.

In team standings, the Redhawks took 13th among the 24 schools entered.
