The saga of the Williston Little League (11- and 12-year-olds) team at the New England Regional Tournament was still being written Wednesday.
The locals, with a 1-2 record in pool play, were scheduled to meet Cumberland, R. I. Wednesday at 1 p.m. in a contest to be televised on the New England Sports Network (NESN), just after the Observer’s press deadline.
Williston was hoping to get back on the winning side of the ledger after falling 7-2 to Barnstable, Mass. on Monday.
Benjamin Herskowitz socked a pair of singles while Griffin McDermott and Aiden Johnson (two-bagger) had the runs-batted-in.
The locals’ lone triumph thus far came Sunday when they rapped Falmouth, Maine 10-4 as McDermott drove in three runs, Jonah Roberts rapped three hits and Johnson slammed a pair of doubles while earning the win on the mound.
Williston got bopped 9-4 by Fairfield, Conn. in Friday’s opener. Roberts scored twice and delivered an RBI triple. Herskowitz and Johnson drove in runs.
