Indoor event designed to beat the winter doldrums, raise money for local food shelf
With no indication that winter is lessening its grip on Vermont—despite the arrival of spring on the calendar—local families have a new indoor event to help them avoid cabin fever.
The Williston Observer is partnering with New England Federal Credit Union to present Williston Kids Day, a community event designed to provide a day of fun and information for local families.
The event is set for Saturday, March 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Williston Central School. All activities will be held indoors. Admission is free, with a suggested $1 donation per person to benefit the Williston Community Food Shelf.
The food shelf will also be selling raffle tickets for some great prizes.
Activities include arts and crafts, singing and theater games with Lyric Theatre, a photo booth, soccer clinics with Vermont Voltage, story time and reading with Gina the Standard Poodle, bouncy castles, face painting, a basketball free throw contest, food concessions and more.
Kids (and adults) can meet members of the Williston Police Department and Williston Fire Department, and see a fire truck up close.
Attendees can also relax in the “Peace Place,” a quieter area for parents and kids to wind down and read stories, as well as enjoy clowning, balloons, bubbles and special craft activities.
Each attendee gets a free slice of pizza from Ramunto’s Brick Oven Pizza and a free cookie from Akes’ Old Brick Tavern, while supplies last.
Local businesses and organizations will also provide information for parents and community members. The event will be interactive, with most exhibitors presenting activities and games at their tables.
The Lyric Theatre Company will teach kids a short Disney-themed song and dance routine from “Beauty and the Beast” that they can perform for their parents. Two sessions are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Sponsors include Once Upon A Child, Williston Insurance Agency and Ramunto’s Pizza.
