MENTOR

Two local agencies are looking for volunteers to make a difference in the life of a child:

Foster Grandparent Program: Volunteers age 55 and over serve at preschools, child care centers, Head Start programs and elementary schools in Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle Counties. Spend between 15 and 40 hours a week under the supervision of a teacher or staff person to help with tutoring, mentoring and self-esteem building. Volunteers receive a small, non-taxable stipend. Howard Center: The Community Friends Mentoring Program matches children with caring adult friends in fun, nurturing, one-to-one relationships. Volunteers commit to about three hours per week and an interview, background check and training are required. Contact Catherine Shahan at 488-6913 or email cshahan@howardcenter.org.

PROJECT SNOW SHOVEL

CVAA is seeking dependable volunteers to help seniors get out of their homes after a snowfall. Volunteers are matched with a senior to shovel snow when there is an accumulation of 3 inches of snow or more. A great way for teen volunteers to help. COMPUTER SKILLS NEEDED

Green Mountain Animal Defenders needs a computer-savvy volunteer to help update its computers and software and to assist the board of directors with technology difficulties. Flexible scheduling. Contact Sharon MacNair at 861-3030 or email sharon@gmad.info.

ARTY AND CRAFTY

ReSOURCE is hoping to give new life to its arts and crafts supplies and is looking for creative volunteers to bring its new ArtCycle section of card-stock, string, fabric, tiles, etc. to its fullest potential. RECORDS FILING

Ethan Allen Residence has an urgent need for a volunteer to help with medical records filing. Tasks include cleaning, organizing and reviewing old files that are disorganized as well as possible data entry. Project could take 10-15 hours and schedule is flexible. PROVIDE A MEAL

ANEW Place is looking for volunteers to bring an evening meal to guests at this shelter that provides housing, food and support services to homeless individuals. Meals are prepared off-site and brought to share with the shelter’s guests.
