Volunteer Opportunities

The listings below are a small sample of the more than volunteer needs from more than 250 agencies at www.unitedwaycc.org. For more information, call 860-1677.

BREAK A WORLD RECORD

A volunteer coordinator is needed by the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity to help plan a February 50-year anniversary event (and help it break a Guinness World Record). The coordinator will recruit the many volunteers that will be needed. Flexible weekly scheduling. Planning sessions will start Sept. 18, 9 a.m.-noon and Sept. 20, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Volunteers are also needed to coordinate technology, entertainment, media/public relations, etc. Organizational skills needed. Weekly scheduling.

MAKE A PLEDGE

Vermont Public Television needs volunteers for call-in shows and an on-air pledge drives. Call-in show volunteers take viewer calls and record questions and contact information, generally on Thursdays from 8-9 p.m. Pledge drive volunteers work on-set to answer phones and take donations while the station is on the air. Other tasks include tallying donations on an Excel spreadsheet. Individuals and groups of up to 12 are welcome. Shifts are typically four hours long.

HEALTH CONNECT OUTREACH

Community Health Centers of Burlington needs volunteers to help with outreach and education for its new Vermont Health Connect program offering Vermonters a choice of health insurance plans. Volunteers attend events in the Burlington area and/or staff a “help desk” in the medical waiting room. Strong communications skills needed and training is provided. Flexible weekday, evening and weekend schedules, three hours a week.

SPREAD THE WORD

Prevent Child Abuse Vermont is planning its annual Walk to End Child Abuse and needs volunteers to hang posters in various locations throughout Chittenden County to spread the word about this fun, family event. Flexible scheduling prior to the walk on Sept. 21.

FOOT CLINIC

Cathedral Square Corporation is looking for RNs or LPNs to supervise and run regularly scheduled foot care clinics for older adults in Burlington, Charlotte, Colchester and Jericho. Volunteers must complete training by Fletcher Allen and should be able to work with minimal supervision. References and background check required. Schedule is five hours every six weeks.
