Unbeaten field hockey team meets the champs Thursday

September 19th, 2013

The Champlain Valley Union High field hockey team will takes its 3-0 record to South Burlington High Thursday to test the 2-1-1 defending Division 1 champions on their turf field.

The Rebels suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday, a 2-1 upset at 1-3 Colchester High. That was at the same time the Redhawks were dispatching Mount Mansfield Union High 3-1 at Jericho Center.

On Spirit Day Saturday, CVU will play host to 4-1 Mount Abraham Union in a 2 p.m. varsity contest.

Katie Arms unloaded a pair of goals on the Cougars in Tuesday’s victory. Amanda Whitbeck got the other CVU tally.

Goalie Evangeline Dunphy made five stops in the Redhawks’ cage but gave up her first goal of the season to MMU’s Maeve Poleman.

Last Friday turned out to be Dunphy Day at CVU, as Molly Dunphy scored the lone goal and Evangeline came up with a stunning (to the Hornets) 10 saves in a 1-0 triumph over Essex High.

I take frequent walks in my neighborhood and surrounding sidewalks/roads on Industrial Avenue and Rt 2-A and occasionally see what appears to be a dog-poop bag, nicely tied, but simply left there in the road or on the sidewalk. I would like to remind dog-walkers that this is not appropriate. Please carry it off.
