Observer staff report
With the start of a new year, residents should begin thinking about whether they want to take up a new civic duty.
Anyone interested in running for several town positions up for election in March must fill out petition and consent forms and turn them in to the town clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on Jan. 27. A minumum of 30 signatures is required. Forms are available in the town clerk’s office.
Along with municipal and school budgets and a Champlain Water District bond, voters will head to the polls on March 4 to elect Selectboard members, school directors for Williston and Champlain Valley Union High School boards, library commissioners, a first constable, a lister and the town clerk and treasurer.
If you are not yet a registered voter in Williston, the deadline to register is Feb. 26.
The deadline to file a petition with the town clerk—signed by at least 5 percent of registered voters, 405 people—for articles to be placed on the Town Meeting Warning is Jan. 23.
