Tough Hornets next for boys basketball

Follow a week of scratching their heads on exam questions and itching to get back on the basketball surface, the Champlain Valley Union High boys basketball team will be tested Friday afternoon (5:30 p.m.) at home by 5-2 Essex High.

The Hornets are coming off a home court overtime loss to 5-4 Rutland High, 63-57.

Coach Scott Bliss’ 4-5 Redhawks also got trimmed Friday by a 57-39 score at Rice Memorial, which hiked its record to 7-0. (The Green Knights fell from the unbeaten ranks Monday night In St. Johnsbury, losing to the undefeated Hilltoppers.)

CVU’s troubles Friday essentially came from one dude, Casey Tipson, who burned the nets for 41 points while hauling down 12 rebounds. His charity line work was also exceptional as he swished 16 of 18 free flips.
