The defending Division 1 champion Champlain Valley Union High field hockey team will get back on the road Saturday with a trip to Middlebury Union High for a 3 p.m. game.
The 11-0 Redhawks will be back home Wednesday to take on once-beaten South Burlington High, which took them into overtime at the Rebels’ field before CVU captured a 2-1 triumph.
It was a good home week for coach Kate McDonald’s highflying team. The good times began rolling last Wednesday with a 1-0 victory over visiting Essex High, continued Friday with a 4-0 bopping of Colchester High and ended Tuesday with a 3-0 triumph over Mount Mansfield Union. The contest with the Cougars was switched to the CVU field at the last minute.
Louise Gibbs, KK Logan and Marielle Kelley scored the goals on Tuesday, with Emmaleigh Loyer and Logan picking up assists. Logan’s score was her 10th of the season.
The Redhawks’ superlative midfield and deep defense kept the Cougars away from goalie Elizabeth Goddette, who had her second game in the last three without having to make a save.
In the win over Colchester, Kelsey Jensen fired in a pair of goals while Logan and Loyer also scored. Logan, Maggie Ryan and Gibbs had assists.
The Redhawks last Wednesday flocked around the Essex net. CVU outshot the Hornets 10-0 in blasts on goal, but Mollie Burke’s early tally proved to be the game winner. Loyer got the assist.
