Upcoming flurry of games for CVU field hockey
After a tough loss on Friday and a win on Tuesday, the Champlain Valley Union High School field hockey team has a packed game schedule coming up.
On Thursday, 5-4-1 CVU will head to Mount Mansfield Union to make up its rained-out Oct. 3 game. CVU will then face Essex on Friday afternoon. On Monday, CVU is set to play Middlebury at home.
Last Saturday, the Redhawks lost in a “hard-fought game” to South Burlington 0-2, Coach Kate McDonald wrote in an email to the Observer.
“Evangeline Dunphy had a standout performance, recording 15 saves,” McDonald wrote.
On Tuesday, the Redhawks edged out Mount Abraham High School 0-1. Robin Powell scored the game’s lone goal. Dunphy had four saves on Tuesday, and Olivia Loisel had a defensive save.
Runners Spillane, Eastman take top spots
Champlain Valley Union High School runners on the girls cross-country team took the top two spots at the Thetford Invitational race on Oct. 6.
Taylor Spillane finished at 18:56, while Autumn Eastman came in at 19:38 for second place. On the boys side, CVU harrier Nick Boutin finished 19th with a time of 17:43.
