CVU golf team scores win at Rocky Ridge

The Champlain Valley Union High golf team did not get the medalist honor Monday, but with three golfers within a single stroke of the day’s low 76 score posted by Walker Allen of Middlebury Union High, the Redhawks took the team scores with a winning tally of 319 to Middlebury’s 341, Rice Memorial’s 366 and Mount Abraham Union’s 396.

Finishing just one shot in back of Allen were CVU’s Andre Bedard, Eric Robinson and Jack Tomashot with 77s. Billy Wilson and Alec Socinski had 88s.

Girls lax team heads to Middlebury Saturday

Hoping to end a five-game, season-opening losing string against the team that started it all, the Champlain Valley Union High girls lacrosse team will travel to Middlebury Union High Saturday for a session with the 5-1 Tigers.

The Redhawks return home Wednesday to tangle with 3-3 Burlington High, which also holds a victory over CVU.

On Monday, Essex High came to Hinesburg and tied up the usually high scoring Redhawks, the Hornets scoring an 11-2 triumph. Erika Gobeille and Lucy Halvorson had the CVU goals.

Net minder Amanda Lacaillade had 15 saves.

Last Friday, Gobeille and Amanda Kinneston knocked in three goals each in the Redhawks 17-11 loss to 3-2 Spaulding High in Barre.

Softball team hopes to get bats popping this week

After just two hits in their last two games, the 0-6 Champlain Valley Union High softball team hopes to get production from the bats when North Country Union (3-2) shows up Friday for a 4:30 p.m. contest.

CVU’s hit shortage began last Thursday at Colchester High, when the Lakers’ Amber Guyette tossed a no-hitter in a 15-0, five-inning contest. Guyette whiffed five.

Once-beaten Bellows Free Academy ruled the day Tuesday at the CVU field, scoring a 16-0, five-inning triumph. Winning pitcher Celsey Lumbra struck out 10 while allowing two singles, both by Holly Bachillas.

The Redhawks will close out the home stand Tuesday against Missisquoi Union High.
