HECTIC WEEK AWAITS CVU SOFTBALL

The Champlain Valley Union softball team will cap a busy week of five straight games with a visit to 10-4 Colchester High on Thursday, followed by the regular season finale at home on Friday against 5-9 Milton. On Wednesday (after Observer press deadline), the Redhawks went to Barre and faced Spaulding in the make up of an earlier postponed contest.

On Monday, CVU blasted Burlington, 13-6, but lost the next day to perennial powerhouse BFA-St. Albans, 10-0.

In the BFA loss, the 3-10 Redhawks were paced at the plate by Leah Soule’s two singles.

CVU got some lusty bat work in Monday’s win at Burlington. Leah Leister rapped three hits and scored two runs. Rachel Distler clubbed three singles and went the route on the mound, striking out nine BHS batters.

CVU GOLFERS SHINE IN SECTIONAL TUNEUP

With medalist Jack Tomashot leading the way, the Champlain Valley Union golf team scored a victory over three others teams on Tuesday at the Ralph Myhre Golf Club in Middlebury. The squad now awaits next week’s sectional Tournament at the St. Johnsbury Country Club.

Tomashot fired a 72 as CVU (317) easily defeated Burlington (365), Missisquoi Valley Union (430), and Vergennes.

CVU’s Peter Scrimgeour came in with a 78, followed by Cam Fitzgerald (79), Todd Forrester (88), and Derek Goodwin (88).
