Schedule toughens for CVU girls soccer team (10/8/09)

Oct. 8, 2009

Once-beaten Burlington High and twice-defeated Mount Mansfield Union High were up next on the 7-0-2 Champlain Valley Union High girls soccer team’s schedule, starting Wednesday afternoon at the Redhawks’ nest.

Burlington, which took out the Redhawks last year in a Division 1 semifinal contest, brought a 3-1-4 mark to town. Mount Mansfield, which invades Hinesburg on Tuesday, entered the week with a 5-2-1 slate.

CVU nipped the Cougars 1-0 two weeks ago in Richmond.

Coach Dan Parker’s Hawks suffered some frustrations Saturday in a scoreless tie in Essex against the 2-4-1 Hornets.

CVU unleashed a torrent of 17 shots on Essex net minder Lara Collins, who stopped them all. At the other end of the field, CVU goalie Emily Sackett rejected four Hornets’ shots in lodging the Redhawks’ seventh shutout of the campaign and fifth in a row.
