Rock climber dies in Bolton

A 20-year-old student at the University of Vermont died in a rock climbing accident in Bolton on Saturday afternoon.

Rebecca Ryan of Knoxville, Tenn., was climbing in the Lower West Bolton Climbing Area when she fell, descending a 90-foot cliff, police said in a statement.

Ryan died at the scene from her injuries, according to a press release from the Vermont State Police. She was an experienced climber.

The Vermont State Police, Richmond Fire Department, Richmond Rescue and the Bolton Fire Department responded to the scene.
