Woof! Dog Communication in the Human World

Tonight, (Thursday, Dec. 14) 6-7 p.m. at Williston Central School. This popular dog communication and safety lecture is a multi-media of fun where the audience gets to test their “dog reading” skills. We’ll demystify dog communication, reveal some common dog-human misunderstandings and explore how we can all live happily together. This is for humans only, dog owners or not. The presenter is Deb Helfrich of Gold Star Dog Training. Ages 14 and up. Pre-registration cost is $5 per person and can be done at willistonrec.org, or $10 per person at the door.

Learn to Ski/Snowboard Program

The program is for Williston students in grades 1-8 (kindergartners can participate if transported and accompanied by an adult; an adult is required to help out with their child during lessons). The emphasis will be on learning to downhill ski or snowboard through a one-hour weekly lesson at Cochran’s Ski Area. The program meets on Tuesdays — Jan. 9-Feb. 20 (this schedule is weather dependent). The program is from school dismissal time to 5:15 p.m. Lessons and ski time are 2:30-4:30 p.m. Buses leave the ski area at 5 p.m. and return to Williston Central School. Parents picking their child up at Cochran’s must be there before 4:45 p.m. to check them out.

Youth/Teen Open Gym

There will be an open gym time for grades 3-12 on Friday evenings December through March from 6-8 p.m. at the WCS old gym. The program is open to Williston residents only, and younger children are able to attend with a parent.

Basketball referees needed

Referees are needed for first- through eighth-grade basketball programs. Refs needed on Saturdays from Jan. 6 through Feb. 17. Approximate time is 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refs are needed at Allen Brook School and Williston Central School. To apply, fill out and send in the employment application at willistonrec.org. This can also be a volunteer position for the right person.

Instructors wanted
