Community Gardens

There are 13 plots available for this spring at the Community Gardens off Mountain View Road near Brennan Park. Plot sizes available are: five small — 15 feet by 10 feet; six medium — 15 feet by 20 feet; and two large — 15 feet by 30 feet. To register for a plot, visit the recreation department website or office for a registration form. Plots will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Plots are only available to Williston residents. The recreation department office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Family Programs

Boater Safety Course

Boating safety education is required of all motor boat operators, 12 years of age or older and born after January 1, 1974. The Boat Vermont, eight-hour classroom course will enable boat operators to get required certification. Participants must be present at all four classes to be eligible for certification. Instructor: Jon Fick. Ages 12+, Mondays and Wednesdays, May 8- May 17, 6-8:30 p.m. $15 per person.

Pickleball: Introductory Clinic

Come learn the rules and how to play this unique sport. This two-hour workshop will provide you with warm up suggestions, a variety of drills, the rules and actual playing time. Resources will be provided for additional programs and playing opportunities. Instructor: Corey Gottfried. Ages 16+, Wednesday, May 10, 6-8 p.m. $25 per person.

Adult Programs

Intro to Zentangle Drawing

The Zentangle method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. This two-hour workshop is a basic introduction that will cover the history, the applications, and the steps of creating an original Zentangle tile. For all levels; requires no artistic experience. Fee includes all materials and kit to take home. Instructor: Jamie Proctor-Brassard, CZT. Ages 16+, Thursday, May 11, 6-8 p.m. $36

Koru Mindfulness for Adults

Are you looking for strategies to decrease stress, get a better nights’ sleep or enjoy the present moment with less worry and distraction? This four-week program will teach the basic skills of mindfulness and meditation through a series of simple exercises and development of a realistic home-based practice. Instructor: Carrie Williams Howe. Ages 18+, Tuesdays, May 2-23, 6:30 p.m.-7:45 p.m. $62

Knitting for Adults

Learn to knit or improve your skills while enjoying the fun of knitting with a group. The program offers the basics for first-time knitters and provides early and intermediate knitters with specific how-tos. Materials are available for purchase at the first class, or you may bring your own. Program is held at The Knitting Circle, Essex Junction. Instructor: Christine Heavner, owner of The Knitting Circle. Ages 18+, Wednesdays, May 3- June 7, 7-8:30 p.m. $72

Adult Tennis

Are you looking to learn the game of tennis or hone your skills for some fun play? This group tennis program is designed for the beginner to intermediate player. Learn or fine tune your fundamental tennis strokes to include groundstrokes, volleys, serves and overheads. Instructors: The Edge tennis staff. Ages 16+, Thursdays, May 4- June 8, 5:30-6:30 p.m. $75

Golf Clinics

Catamount Golf Center is offering group lessons for beginners through intermediate golfers. The proper grip, stance and swings will be covered. Come learn or hone your skills to be a better player on the course. Instructor: Bill Boldwin, Golf Director. Ages 18+. Babysitters Course

The American Red Cross babysitting course will provide in-class training and the opportunity to sharpen skills to become a safe, reliable babysitter. Students will learn leadership, professionalism, basic care, safety, safe play and basic first aid. Instructor: Karl Hubrich, North Country Health & Safety Institute. Ages 11-15, Monday, Apr. 24, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. $102

GPS Junior Soccer

The program teaches the fundamentals of soccer using a fun and energetic curriculum that has been tailored for 3-5 and 6-8-year-olds. The age appropriate curriculum and expert professional coaches create the perfect environment to learn. Players receive a Frankie the Fox t-shirt. Instructors: GPS Staff. Ages 3-5, Fridays, May 5-June 16, 3-3:45 p.m. or 4-4:45 p.m. Ages 6-8, Fridays, May 5-June 16, 5-6 p.m. $72 per child.

Youth Tennis

Smaller courts, shorter racquets and balls that bounce lower. Now, it’s easier for children to play and develop a love for the sport. Taught by certified tennis professionals who are trained to teach proper stroke techniques to all ages. Players will learn basic stroke technique for groundstrokes, volleys and serves. Instructors: The Edge tennis staff. Ages 6-8, Thursdays, May 4- June 8, 4:15-5:15 p.m., $75. Ages 9-12, Thursdays, May 4- June 8, 3-4 p.m. $75

Young Rembrandts Drawing Programs

This session of the Young Rembrandts drawing program is pastels. Your child will love learning to use them to create masterpieces. Grades K-2, Tuesdays, May 2-May 30, 1:45-3 p.m. Grades 3-6, Tuesdays, May 2-May 30, 2-3:15 p.m. $78

Parisi Afterschool Program

Does your child love to be active? If so, he/she will enjoy the Parisi Performance Training. The training combines speed, agility, relative body strength, enhanced coordination and confidence building skills along with fun games and activities. The program is held at WCS.
