St. George and Williston children between the ages of 3 and 5 are eligible for publicly funded prekindergarten in the 2011-2012 academic year.
Prekindergarten includes six to 10 hours per week of early development and learning experience. It is available in the Williston School District, as well as several private locations.
Chittenden South Supervisory Union partners with 20 community early care and education programs, including the Bellwether School, Heartworks and Williston Child Care Center.
The program is tuition-free, but private centers may charge families the difference between their operating costs and what Chittenden South Supervisory Union pays. Also, if applications rise above the supervisory union’s enrollment cap, the union will use a random selection process to determine which children get a publicly funded slot.
