Public works dept. leads local food drive

The Williston Public Works Department is participating in National Public Works Week, May 20-26. With a theme of “The Power of Public Works,” the department is promoting a “Fill a Truck” effort to collect food and household provisions for community food banks during a critical time of need, as schools get out.

Many children and families get assistance during the school year, but need help during summer break.

The department will set up drop off sites at the following locations: town clerk’s office, library, Public Works Department, Allen Brook School and Williston Central School.

The following not-expired items are needed: healthy snacks for kids; 100 percent juice for kids, including juice boxes; cereal and oatmeal; rice; canned or dry beans; jar/canned spaghetti sauce; canned fruit and vegetables; canned fish and meat; jelly; hearty soups and stews/chili; condiments; canned pastas such as raviolis/Spaghettios; boxed meals like macaroni and cheese, hamburger helper, etc; toilet paper/paper towels/tissues; shampoo/soap; feminine products; toothpaste; cleaning products (dish soap, laundry detergent); diapers.

Contact Williston Assistant Public Works Director Lisa Schaeffler at 878-1239 ext. 182 for more information.
