Public input sought on Catamount

The Catamount Community Forest Planning Committee will be hosting a drop-in public input session Saturday, Feb. 10 regarding future management of the 370-acre Catamount Community Forest off Governor Chittenden Road.

The session will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex Conference Room at 7900 Williston Road. Refreshments will be provided.

The Town of Williston plans to acquire the property — currently operated privately as the Catamount Outdoor Family Center — later this year and preserve it as a public park. The planning committee has been meeting monthly since July to develop a management plan for the property.

During next Saturday’s session, members of the committee will provide updates on their recommendations for use of the property, including pedestrian use and the possible re-opening of the snowmobiling trail on the east side of the property.

In upcoming meetings, the committee plans to develop recommendations regarding horseback-riding, dog-walking and hunting. Committee members welcome public input on those, and other activities.
