Playoffs next for CVU tennis teams

For Champlain Valley Union High boys and girls tennis teams, the regular season wrap came Wednesday (after the Observer’s press deadline) with the girls playing host to Colchester High at Davis Park in Shelburne and the boys taking on their Laker counterparts at Bayside in Colchester.

The defending Division 1 champion girls took a 10-2 record into the finale while the boys were 10-3. Individual and team playoff pairings are to be announced by the Vermont Principals Association.

The girls took the measure of Essex High 6-1 Monday on the Hornets’ courts at the Junction while the boys, an earlier 4-3 winner over the Hornets, bowed 4-3 at Davis Park.

The girls swept their individual matches on the work of Kathy Joseph, Leah Epstein, MacKenzie Buckman, Elyse Killkelley and Isabelle Angstman. The Erika Barth-Vina Nguyen duo also won.

In the boys net battle, Nathan Comai won CVU’s lone individual match while the doubles teams of Stephen Asch-David Huber and Ryan Schneiderman-Will Walker both won.

The match of individual number one players went to Essex’ Daniel Ro of Williston by 6-2, 7-6 over the Redhawks’ George Lomas.

I take frequent walks in my neighborhood and surrounding sidewalks/roads on Industrial Avenue and Rt 2-A and occasionally see what appears to be a dog-poop bag, nicely tied, but simply left there in the road or on the sidewalk. I would like to remind dog-walkers that this is not appropriate. Please carry it off.
