PHOTOS: Vermont City Marathon

Observer courtesy photo by Natalie Harder                        Williston resident and Champlain Valley Union High runner Carly Neeld powers through her leg of the Vermont City Marathon relay on Sunday. Neeld’s team—comprised of Olympic bronze medal winner and American record holder Deena Kastor and high school runners Neeld, St. Johnsbury Academy sophomore Caroline O’Shea and South Burlington High junior Meghan Cook—won the Open Women’s Division with a time of 2:50:47. Nearly 5,000 people participated in the event, whether running the full marathon, running as part of a duo or on a three- to five-person team.

CVU Girls XC Marathon Team

The CVU relay team of (from left) Haley Harder, Maeve Higgins, Jen Ireland, Emma Putre and Sophia Gorman placed first in the Junior Girls’ Relay Division with a time of 3:04:33.
