Led by their Lightning Lady and many others, the Champlain Valley Union High girls soccer team was one win away Wednesday from the Division 1 Championship contest.

Standing in the way was U-32 of East Montpelier, which brought a 12-3-1 record to Hinesburg for Wednesday’s semifinal, after the Observer’s press deadline.

Coach Stan Williams’ Redhawks were 16-0 after a play down opening home victory over Brattleboro Union High (4-0) and last Saturday’s quarterfinal 6-0 scorching of Rutland High.

“We are peaking at just the right time,” said CVU midfielder Emma Davitt Saturday after doing some peaking of her own with four goals plus an assist against the Red Raiders from Rutland.

Quick attacker Haliana Burhans, the Lightning Lady, had helpers on three of Davitt’s scores and also, as per usual these days, popped two of her own. The pair of tallies hiked Burhans’ season goal total to an eye popping 24.

Both members of CVU’s Audrey duo, Allegretta and Morehouse, also had assists.

Redhawks’ netminder Maddie Turneau had one save in putting up her 13th blank of the campaign. The save was a lunging, rolling stop of the lone Rutland shot on net.

Burhans scored twice in last Wednesday’s triumph over visiting Brattleboro. Catherine Cazayoux and Morehouse also potted pointers for the winners as the Redhawks dominated the field of play.
