Northridge plans revealed

Colchester-based developer BlackRock Construction presented plans for a 59-unit, 44-acre subdivision adjacent to the South Ridge neighborhood to the Development Review Board on Tuesday night.

The plans are a pre-application review, showing both 59- and 56-unit residential subdivision options, featuring mixed-size housing, including 1,200 to 2,500-square-foot single-family homes and carriage-style buildings just north of South Ridge. Existing neighborhood roads Metcalf Drive, Southridge Rd., Harte Circle and Coyote Lane would be used for access.

Neighbors of the plan spoke out on Tuesday, raising concerns about stormwater runoff and wetlands flooding issues currently at the site, as well as new car trips in the area, disruption of animal habitats, a proposed bike path and proximity to existing homes.

Town officials said a shovel would hit the ground in mid-2018 at the earliest. The Observer first reported on the development June 2; since then, seven homes have been sold on Metcalf Dr. and Southridge Rd. The public may review plans at the Planning Department or request via email:
